'Bangladesh-India should intensify dialogue'

Bangladesh and India should further intensify their dialogue and actions for the collective development of the South Asian region, visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said.
The Indian minister made the statement in her lecture on Bangladesh-India relationship at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel on Thursday evening.

“My government is ready to work with other South Asian leaders to revitalise SAARC as an effective instrument for regional cooperation and as a united voice on these global issues,” she added.

Sushma said ministers and senior officials from a number of ministries including the Joint Rivers Commission would be taking the discussions forward.
“We anticipate that all this will help us to break fresh ground in our relationship,” she said.
The indian minister said: “We will walk the extra mile to create opportunities and to build virtuous cycles of prosperity in the region."
She said there are issues of concern to Bangladesh which remain unresolved, such as sharing of Teesta waters, implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement and its Protocol, and better border management.
“My government is committed to addressing all these in a manner that improves the welfare and well being of both our people,” she added.
She expressed India’s gratefulness for the cooperation New Delhi has received from Dhaka in combating trans-boundary crime, insurgency and terrorism.
